San Jacinto Monument YRE

You park and register at the San Jacinto Monument, then walk back along the road you came in on.
LaPorte, TX is a refinery town.
There is no shade, Lenore was trying to use her umbrella to make shade but the wind was too strong.
Looks like there may be shade ahead inside the park gates.
Monument on the spot where Santa Anna surrendered.
Historical marker at the cemetary.
A cutout in front of the Battleship Texas.
We interrupted our Volksmarch to tour the Battleship Texas.
Traffic on the San Jacinto River.
Sitting on the guns.
Going to an upper deck.
More guns.
Between the Big Guns on the Main Deck.
The reflecting pool is overgrown.
The side of the pool is caving in and the sidewalk is sinking.
The boardwalk out into the marshes. Saw several Heron but wasn't able to get a picture.
Either they ran out of money and couldn't finish the boardwalk, or flooding washed the boardwalk away.
As you circle around the park you get lots of views of the monument.
Inside the monument, near the elevators. For a minimal fee you can go up and take a look from the top.

There is also a very nice slide show that tells about the battle at San Jacinto. We enjoyed it.
